ZAMBIA AND BOTSWANA

These two easy accessible countries, with a true African feel offers so much; In Zambia you can view one of the natural seven wonders of the world, the spectacular Victoria Falls while staying at one of the most beautiful 5 star hotels built right on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River.

Zambia - Victoria Falls

Discovered by explorer Dr David Livingstone, the Victoria Falls today, is listed as one of the World’s Natural Wonders.  Three times higher than Niagara Falls, it towers above the Zambezi River gorge and separates Zambia from Zimbabwe.

A guided tour from the Zambia side takes one along the ravine as the thundering water plunges more than 100 metres into the gorge.   Be prepared to get soaked in the misty spray that rises and can often be seen many miles away.  Locals aptly named the Victoria Falls “Mosi-oa-Tunya” – the smoke that thunders.

Take a micro light or helicopter ride over the Falls for the most amazing views and photo opportunities.

Canoe safari on the Zambezi River

The Upper Zambezi offers outstanding canoeing opportunities and will give guests as close an encounter as could possibly be expected with this magnificent river.  Experience the tranquility of paradise as you leisurely paddle downstream with the current.  Hear the haunting cry of the fish eagle and observe the wide variety of birdlife.

Drift quietly past hippo and elephant and photograph game peacefully grazing on the riverbanks.

Arrive at a private island in the middle of the river where brunch will be served. Guests will be served sparkling wine and freshly squeezed orange juice in a fluted glass as they climb out their canoes.  A refresher towel will also be handed to guests on arrival at the island.

White Mischief Dinner on the Banks of the Zambezi River

Reminiscent of the romantic, colonial lifestyle during the 1920’s and 1930’s, this setting is ideal for a final gala dinner.   Guests are invited to dress up for the occasion and meet for a sunset cocktail on the river deck only a hundred metres away from the smouldering falls.

Tables are elegantly laid with rich damask linen, crystal glasses, silverware and beautiful flower arrangements while the perimeter is lit up with torches and floating candles.

A string quartet provides gentle background music while guests are treated to a superb set menu, all served by waiters in white gloves and colonial uniforms.

Botswana – this is a real African adventure; with a variety of lodges on the Chobe River, known for the largest number of elephants in the world.  Or visit to the remote Okavango Delta with smaller lodges and game viewing in a makoro canoe, following the hippo trails must.

Land Safari, Chobe National Park

Game viewing in the Chobe National Park is a unique experience, as it can be either land or water based.  The park hosts the largest concentration of wildlife in Southern Africa.

The Chobe National Park is the best place in the world to see the majestic African elephant for it is home to the world’s largest elephant population; some estimate there could be as many as 120,000 in the region.

Guests can enjoy a full day game drive with a picnic lunch, or split the day and start with a river safari in the morning, lunch at one of the lodges and onto a 4 x 4 vehicle for an afternoon game drive.

River Safari, Chobe National Park

Chobe River safaris are a great adventure, getting within arms’ reach of great herds of elephants.  Enjoy a gentle cruise down the river as you pass by pods of grunting hippos, floating crocodiles and antelope on the banks of the river.

A great profusion of animals can always be sighted from the boats, especially during the dry season when they are all attracted to the water.

Birdlife is bountiful and a dream for wildlife photographers.

Mokoro safari in the Okavango Delta

The Okavango Delta was once part of the massive lake Makgadikgadi, and is the only inland delta in the world.  It covers over 22 000 sq km of Botswana and only floods once a year.

During the wet season, a safari by mokoro is by far the best way to explore the delta and its abundance of wildlife – more than 80 different species of fish, 400 species of birds – not to mention masses of hippos, elephants and many more.
The autonomous region of La Rioja borders the Basque Country and Navarre in the north, Aragon in the east, and Castile and Leon in the south and west. La Rioja is a very important communications hub in the Iberian Península. It is a major trading route between the Mediterranean coast and Aragon for the north of Spain. The infrastructure is blessed with dual carriageways and fast roads. In La Rioja you will get to know people, traditions and regions that are have been influenced since antiquity by the wine-growing tradition. Slight hills and innumerable vineyards raise along the river Ebro. On the horizon appear the rugged rocks of the Sierra de Cantabria - far away from mass tourism.

La Rioja offers everything one requires for a culinary adventure. One can sample the delicious food of the best restaurants and learn more about the production, quality and storage of the famous Rioja-wine. The cultural highlights include the numerous monasteries and churches of the region as well as the pilgrim places of the Santiago pilgrim trail that crosses La Rioja. The capital Logroño, for example, was already pointed out in the "Codex Calixtinus" of the 12th century – the first written guide of the Santiago pilgrim trail.
